STATEMENT OF GIVING FOR INCOME
TAXES: If you wish to receive a statement of your financial
contributions to St. James Church for 2006, please indicate this on
your Sunday offering envelope so that we can assure confidentiality.
WASHINGTON RIGHT TO LIFE: You are
invited to join concerned citizens around the Nation as they gather
in Washington to promote the sanctity of life and to bring an end to
abortion. A chartered bus will leave the parking lot of St.
Peters Church on Sunday evening, January 21 at 8 pm for the
Monday March for Life. The bus will return to Plattsburgh early
morning, January 23. You may reserve a seat for $25 by calling Betty
Buffett at 563-8177 or Karen Smith at 566-6229 or St. Peters
Rectory 563-1692.
RESPECT LIFE COLLECTION: Next
Monday marks the 34th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Courts
Roe v. Wade decision, which legalised abortion on demand in our
nation. Bishop Cunningham has authorised a Respect Life Collection,
which will take place in all the parishes of the diocese the weekend
of January 27-28. Money collection will be disbursed in the form of
grants to local organisations active in pro-life ministry.
EPIPHANY OF THE LORD: On this first
Lords Day of the new year we come together in joy to celebrate
the festival of the Epiphany of the Lord. Today is the high point of
the Christmas season and one of the greatest days of the year. A
shining star in the heavens proclaims the good news that Jesus Christ
is the new-born Saviour. You will notice that the Bible readings
overflow with superlatives.
WELCOMING CHRIST IN THE REFUGEE AND
MIGRANT: Joseph was told in a dream: Rise, take the child and his
mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. Herod is
going to search for the child to destroy him. Joseph rose and took
the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt. And so the
Holy Family became refugees, fleeing the horror of infanticide
perpetrated by King Herod. If we were to encounter them today, would
we reach out to welcome them into our land and offer them
hospitality, or would we shun them? Help us recognise Jesus
in the migrant who labors to bring
food to our table
in the refugee seeking protection
from persecution, war, and famine
in the woman and child who are
victims of human trafficking
in the asylum seeker imprisoned fo
fleeing without documents
PRAYER OF BLESSING OF THE HOME AT EPIPHANY
Lord our God, bless this household.
May we be blessed with health,
goodness of
heart, gentleness, and the keeping
of your law.
We give thanks to you, Father, Son,
and Holy Spirit. Amen |
