BAPTISM: Logan Joseph Duquette, son of Peter and Mary Lou (Downs) Duquette became a member of the Catholic community through the Sacrament of Baptism on January 21st. FUNERAL: A funeral was celebrated this week for Ernest Miller. Please remember him and his family in your prayers. A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP CUNNINGHAM: The Respect Life collection this weekend supports initiatives within our Diocese and helps to build a Culture of Life. Many parishes and other organizations applied for grants from last year’s collection. Proceeds were distributed for Pro-life radio, television and billboard messages in Watertown and Plattsburgh. Grants were awarded to three Gabriel projects in our diocese. A grant helped with the printing and distribution of adoption advertising materials for Catholic Charities. Funds were used to help several other respect life initiatives. It seems that we hear about life issues in each news broadcast. As members of the Catholic Church we must continue to educate about respect life topics such as stem cell research, cloning, abortifacients, abortion, and laws addressing life issues. Proclaiming the Gospel of Life must be a priority. To support many within our Diocese who are committed to the Respect Life ministry funds are required. Prayer to the Holy Spirit Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. GESTURES IN WORSHIP: Since the earliest days of the Church, gestures have been an important part of worship. Some gestures are positions for praying. Genuflecting was originally used in the presence of rulers. We genuflect in front of the tabernacle as a sign of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament.
