PRAYER OF GOOD FRIDAY

Lord, by the suffering of Christ your Son
you have saved us all from the death
we inherited from sinful Adam.
By the law of nature
we have borne the likeness of his manhood.
May the sanctifying power of grace
help us to put on the likeness of our Lord in heaven,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

HOLY WEEK AND EASTER 2007 FOR OUR PARISH FAMILY: I extend an invitation to you to join our parish family in the celebration of Holy Week and Easter. As Catholics, our observance of the suffering and death of Jesus begins on HOLY THURSDAY evening with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. On GOOD FRIDAY we are asked to fast and pray, as well a set aside routine chores and festivities in order to make time for reflection. There is no Mass celebrated on this day. Instead, we go church to hear the reading of Christ’s passion. We then meditate on Jesus’ death on the cross and venerate the cross. The service ends with Holy Communion using the hosts consecrated at the celebration of the Last Supper. On HOLY SATURDAY we are reminded of the time when Jesus was buried in the tomb. As darkness falls, we gather at church to renew our Baptismal promises. The entire church may once again proclaim alleluia because we all celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. EASTER morning begins 50 days of the Easter Season in which we renew our faith and love of Jesus.

HOLY LAND COLLECTION, GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 6: For over 800 years since the 13th century the Franciscan Friars have been charged with the care of the sacred places of the Holy Land. Each year, on Good Friday,we take up a collection in every Church of the United States to support their ministry. The Holy Land, despite the troubles and war which seem to plague its history, is Christ's favorite place. He chose it as his birthplace when He could have chosen any place in the world. The shrines in the Holy Land are a constant reminder that Christ, Our Savior, did walk this earth. Please be as generous as you can with this special act of almsgiving. May God bless you for kind and generous support!

FAITH BITS FOR FAMILIES: The word Revelation is often used in sermons. Revelation is the self-disclosure of the living God and his plan to save us. Revelation shows us that God desires to have an intimate and loving relationship with everyone. The process of Revelation took centuries to unfold. God gradually communicated the divine mystery by words and deeds. Revelation reached its fullness in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. The Apostles transmitted Christ’s Gospel through their witness, preaching, and writing--under the guidance of the Holy Spirit—meant for all peoples until Christ comes in glory. The Church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes. This is what meant by the term Tradition. Sacred Scripture (The Bible) is inspired by God and truly contains the Word of God. This action of God is referred to as Inspiration. God is the author of Sacred Scripture, inspiring the human authors, acting in and through them without error. The Catholic Church accepts and venerates as inspired the forty-six books of the Old Testament and the twenty-seven books of the New Testament. Our response to God’s Revelation is faith, by which we surrender our whole selves to him. How has your faith in Jesus grown as a child, as a parent? What changes have you noticed? This Holy Week take time to read from teh Bible about the Last Supper, the death of Jesus and His resurrection on Easter
