777 (July 7, 2007): Many ancient cultures believed that certain numbers had specific sacred properties. The numbers 3, 5, and 7 had a significant place in the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians. The Romans had a particular interest in the number 10. The number 7 has held a special significance at least from the time of the ancient Babylonians, who revered the seven sacred planets. It occurs in one way or another in about 600 passages of the Old and New Testament. It is a crucial numeral in the Bible representing completeness of all creation brought about by God the Creator, as in the seven days of the Creation to the seven petitions of the Lord’s Prayer. In the Gospels, the most famous reference to seven relates to forgiveness. Peter asks how many times he should forgive a brother who has sinned against him. As many as seven times? Jesus responds. I say to you, not seven times but 77 times. Forgiveness, like mercy and love of God should have no measure. 7/7/07 will not come around again for 1000 years (3007)!
