VIGILANT DISCIPLE: St. Luke presents one of his favorite themes. Disciples are to sell what they have and give to the poor. It is the heart of radical discipleship. The Gospel is also a catechism on preparedness. Christians are to be ready for the Master’s return at a moment’s notice. In these August lazy, hazy days of summer, the weather makes us want to laze around and read “good stuff” like Scripture and Spiritual Books! How about journeying through the Catechism?

ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held throughout the year every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 6 am to 9 pm at St. John’s Church Adoration Chapel downstairs. Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with Jesus any time during these hours. For more information about spending a special hour with Jesus weekly, or becoming a substitute, please call 561-5083 or email St. John’s Church, Plattsburgh at Sjohnsadoration@aol.com.

ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN MARY: Wednesday, August 15th is the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary . Masses will be at 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. The Catechism of the Catholic Church refers to Mary’s Assumption as follows: The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son’s Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body. Mary formed and gave us the body of Christ her son so that he could daily give himself to us in Eucharist.
