Father O'Haire,
the first Pastor and resident at St. James Rectory, was also was
Chancellor of the Diocese. In 1872 he began new parishes in Lisbon,
Heuvelton Morristown, Crown Point, Essex, and Burke. The church lot
is Subdivision 33 of the Canadian-Nova Scotia Refugee Tract deeded by
O'Haire to St. James Church, on August 24, 1874.
Growing
nationalistic rivalry among Irish and French-Canadian gradually
widened such that on September 18, 1880 Father McGowan complained to
the Pope about his French parishioner ...who liked to have the time
and health of a priest for nothing.
