In 1872 he began new parishes in Lisbon, Heuvelton Morristown, Crown Point, Essex, and Burke. The church lot is Subdivision 33 of the Canadian-Nova Scotia Refugee Tract deeded by O'Haire to St. James Church, on August 24, 1874.

Growing nationalistic rivalry among Irish and French-Canadian gradually widened such that on September 18, 1880 Father McGowan complained to the Pope about his French parishioner ...who liked to have the time and health of a priest for nothing.
